Process Description

• Product is filled in packages that incorporate a barrier to prevent infiltration of air and preserve post-irradiated sterility. The 750 cu. in. shavings bags are vacuum packed and placed in a protective carton. Other packages are securely stretch-wrapped and palletized.

• All product receives a lot number and is sent for sterilization. Irradiation sterilization indicators, which have been placed on all packages, will turn from yellow/orange to red.

• Upon receipt of product, the researcher can verify the irradiation process by the color of
the indicator dot and can be assured of the package integrity by the presence of the
vacuum and/or heat-seal.
